I remember when I first started growing lilies from seed. The initial batch was planted in my mum’s garden and like in this video, covered with straw for the winter.
There is nothing quite like the gift of early success to give encouragement. That first year I grew the kind of lilies that really have no business in this climate, they lived and bloomed. It was wild. Since then I haven’t had that same experience, the tender ones just die here, many don’t make it through the first winter. So I appreciate all these tough genetics that allow Asiatic lilies to thrive out here.
