Shelling and Sorting Seeds

Lily seed from Lilyfield farm
Lily seeds.

Lilyfield’s seeds are shelled, sorted and stored during the month of November. The seeds are removed from the pods, and candled to see if there is an embryo. This year we collected 3 gallons of chaff from this process. The crosses are logged from the field notebook onto a computer spreadsheet. These records will be referenced hundreds of times through the years as traits are observed and selections made.

The seeds made available to the public are from proven plant selections held for that purpose. As well we have special crosses that we want to share with you although they often sell out quick becuase of there low availability.
