Surf To Shore carries a feature I love in the flowers of daylilies, form. The flower form of Surf is special, the big beautiful petals are recurved and gently pinched into a ridge towards the ends. The sepals gracefully drop away from the rest of the flower like a surfer whose core in engaged and arms are quietly helping balance the body above the wave.
Surf To Shore has numerous big, beautiful blooms peach-pink blooms with a purple eye stretching from a yellow and green throat. Surf’s ruffled petals are on closer look lined with the same purple as the eye. Surf shines in the evening as the sun glints of her petals she really begins to glow.
A workhorse in the garden she blooms and blooms, you will enjoy adding Surf to your collection.
Arms relaxed, body balanced, face against the sun, a wave getting slower and quieter carrying board and rider to the sandy shore, the work of catching the wave already forgotten. Her name came to me quickly as I looked into her bloom, Surf To Shore connects in form to that relaxed, easy posture of riding a wave. It is easy to forget the paddle out to catch the wave, waves crashing into you, the board held tightly, the water up the nose, paddling right-left, easy, easy, then popping-up and falling head over heals into the ocean. My heart sings on a board, but because I’m out here on the prairies surfing doesn’t happen much, but when it does, and when a wave is ridden to shore, I can’t believe I get to be part of this great universe.
